Elevating Emergency CARE Meet the Newest Member of Our Emergency Department Always open to treat the community's emergency medical needs, the emergency department at Huron Regional Medical Center is ready for patients who have suffered accidents, trauma or sudden illness and require immediate medical attention. Mary Jo Stahl, CNP, joins Huron Regional Medical Center with more than 30 years of nursing experience. As an RN, she spent time in environments such as critical care and intensive care, including two previous stints in HRMC's intensive care unit between 1980 and 1996. She also spent eight years in a classroom environment at Huron University, teaching medical-surgical clinical work and theory to students working toward an associate degree in nursing. Stahl's work experience as a nurse practitioner saw her in settings that included family care, rehabilitation and extended care, geriatric services, intensive care and a pain clinic. We welcome Mary Jo back to HRMC and our community. Mary Jo Stahl, CNP< "Our emergency department has the physicians, nurses, medical support staff and state-of-the-art technology necessary for effective diagnosis, care and treatment," says Pat Woolridge RN, MSN, MHA, director of the emergency department and outpatient treatment and trauma coordinator at HRMC. "Our ultimate goal is to provide emergency services that restore the health of individual patients and our community as a whole." The Patient Experience As soon as you arrive, our emergency department staff assesses your condition and prioritizes treatment based on the severity of your condition. We'll also speak with you to learn more about your current condition and medical history so we can offer the most effective treatment in as short a time as possible. From the time you check in to the time you see a medical provider, HRMC's emergency department wait time is generally less than the typical wait time found in larger facilities. On average, HRMC's emergency room staff serves about 6,000 patients annually. Although patients often use the emergency department for urgent care needs, we provide much more advanced capability. The HRMC emergency department staff is highly skilled and is certified in advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support and trauma care. A Community Trauma Hospital HRMC has earned designation from the South Dakota Department of Health as one of only seven Community Trauma Hospitals (CTH) in the state. CTH designation means a trauma site review team has established HRMC has met all the state's requirements to provide evaluation, stabilization and diagnostic capabilities for injured patients by providing emergency department coverage 24/7 and offering surgical and trauma coverage. An important part of our trauma coverage is our trauma team, which is made up of staff that represent every department in our hospital. Our multidisciplinary trauma team includes: • an on-call surgeon • physicians • physician assistants • certified nurse practitioners • respiratory therapists • lab, X-ray and anesthesia professionals This team is always available and is dedicated to the care of every trauma patient that passes through our doors. 4 welloneconnection w w w. h u r o n r e g i o n a l . o r g
