Dr. Khan: It's best to receive the flu vaccine before January, when peak flu season begins. However, flu season can last as late as May, so the vaccine will still be effective if you haven't yet contracted the virus. Excuse: "The flu vaccine will give me the flu." A vaccine- resistant strain of the flu virus or another type of illness may also cause flu- like symptoms. Vaccine Checklist The flu shot isn't the only vaccination adults may need. This checklist includes some of the most common adult vaccines. Take this with you to your next checkup, and discuss which vaccines may be right for you.
