Consult your physician before undertaking any form of medical treatment or adopting any exercise program or dietary guidelines. Welcome, Dr. Porter! Dr. Porter earned his medical degree at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science at Chicago Medical School and recently completed his residency in radiation oncology at the Barrett Cancer Center at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio. During his residency, Dr. Porter studied advanced radiation oncology techniques, including image-guided radiation therapy, intracranial stereotactic radiosurgery and stereotactic body radiation therapy – all of which he provides to cancer patients at our Cancer Treatment Center. These forms of therapy allow radiation to be directed to specific cancerous tumor sites, reducing the risk for damage to healthy surrounding tissues and treatment-related side effects. Dr. Porter will be spearheading radiation therapy involving the hospital's Varian Clinac® iX Linear Accelerator with RapidArc. With the hospital's new $2.7 million linear accelerator, Dr. Porter can deliver safer, more precise and more comfortable radiation therapy that is two to eight times faster than what was previously available. "When people have cancer, they shouldn't have to travel far to get the treatment they need," Dr. Porter says. "At KDH's Cancer Treatment Center, we can provide patients with the same advanced treatments using a lot of the same technologies they would find at a major cancer center, but we can do it close to where they live and where their loved ones can offer support." ■ Dr. Porter sees patients at the Cancer Treatment Center. William Porter, MD Just months after King's Daughters' Health dedicated its $11 million Cancer Treatment Center, the hospital introduced the community to new radiation oncologist William Porter, MD. Since August, Dr. Porter has provided advanced radiation oncology services to Madison and its surrounding counties.
