CHRISTUS St. Vincent moves forward with our conversion to all private rooms. CHRISTUS St. Vincent has been hard at work making preparations to begin a $40 million expansion. This project — in response to community feedback that reinforced that Northern New Mexicans value privacy while healing — will ensure all admitted adult patients in our hospital have private rooms. The remodeling project will include the conversion of all adult rooms from semi-private to private and the new construction of 36 private rooms. Additionally, the private rooms will offer patients considerably more space than they have currently. Private rooms have been proven to improve the quality of health care. They reduce infections and contribute to more open and honest discussions with health care providers. They also create a more relaxing atmosphere, which enhances the patient experience. The project is being funded by the St. Vincent Hospital Foundation ($10 million), SVHsupport ($3.75 million) and CHRISTUS Health ($11.25 million cash and a loan for the remaining $15 million). The project is estimated to be completed in 2018. For more CHRISTUS St. Vincent news, visit stvin.org. As part of its ongoing commitment to organizations that provide critical care to our community, CHRISTUS St. Vincent, along with SVHsupport and CHRISTUS Health, recently made grants to 23 nonprofit organizations throughout Northern New Mexico at the Annual Community Health Provider Funding Awards for the 2016 Fiscal Year. The awards, ranging from $8,000 to $215,000, are awarded to organizations that demonstrate an ability to partner with the hospital in responding to the health needs of vulnerable populations in six categories that encompass the lifespan.
