DISPLAY AD 4.5 x 7 By Rachel Smith The When and How WHILE TEXTS FROM RECRUITERS TO PHYSICIAN CANDIDATES CAN BE APPROPRIATE, THEY CALL FOR HEIGHTENED ATTENTION TO GRAMMAR AND ETIQUETTE. of Texting Physician Candidates T IME ZONE DIFFERENCES, hectic schedules and ceaseless email make communication between recruiters and candidates mad- dening enough. To keep texting smooth and effi cient, The New England Journal of Medicine CareerCenter and Florida-based physician recruiter MDR Associates sug- gest a professional approach focused on candidates' convenience. Here are some pointers from their websites: + First impressions — First contact via text can help a recruiter appear person- able. However, though text messages are inherently informal, accuracy matters. Correct grammar, spelling and punctuation refl ect a recruiter's personality and can make or break his or her impression. + Quick communication — Certain situations, such as scheduling a phone or on-site interview, may require back- and-forth messaging. Texting is a speedy alternative to email. + Strictly professional — Recruiters should stay away from emoticons, choppy sentences and all-capitalized phrases. And just like messages in other platforms, texts should be reviewed thoroughly before being sent. + Simple reminders — A text suffi ces when reminding candidates about an upcoming interview or wishing them good luck through the process. An email conveying the same information would clutter an inbox. ■ You care for your patients. We care for your fiscal health.
