299 King's Daughters Drive Frankfort, Ky 40601 Expanding Care for the Community Frankfort Regional Medical Center broke ground on a construction project that will transform the Emergency Department (ED). Accommodating more than 33,000 visits each year, the ED needed to expand to meet the growing needs of the community. When renovations are complete, the ED will include 28 private rooms with multiple nursing stations. "In some ways, the ED serves as the front door of the hospital," says Lee Higginbotham, Chief Operating Officer at Frankfort Regional. "We want the right resources to be available at the front door." Accompanying the layout changes will be additional new technologies. The ED will employ a new electronic health records system and feature a 64-slice computed tomography scanner. The scanner is a non-invasive imaging system that has the capability to take images of the entire body in a matter of seconds, providing faster and more accurate information for physicians. HERE WHEN YOU NEED US The new ED also aims to make visits more convenient for patients. Patients can learn anticipated wait times from a monitor in the ED waiting area, Frankfort Regional's Web site, and now through a text messaging service. The ED will also host a Fast Track area for patients with non-urgent symptoms. "Our renovations will create a more efficient department that will reduce wait times for patients," says Higginbotham. "All of the changes in design and advancements in technology are to improve patient care." Construction will take place in three different phases, and the scheduled completion for the ED is mid-2013.
