Fall 2015 Vol. 2, No. 4. Yes Ma'am is published four times a year in January, April, July and October by St. Dominic – Jackson Memorial Hospital. 969 Lakeland Drive, Jackson, MS 39216. THANK YOU FOR MAKING US YOUR PARTNER IN GOOD HEALTH. Questions or comments? Contact the editor at editor@stdom.com. "'TIS THE SEASON" COVERS A LOT OF TERRITORY, FROM THE SPIRITUAL TO THE STRESSFUL, WITH QUITE A FEW STOPS IN BETWEEN. ALL OF US AT YES MA'AM WISH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY THE VERY BEST OF HEALTH AND HAPPINESS. STEPHANIE EDITOR Generosity comes in many forms and blesses others in many ways. If you have wealth, try to be generous to those who are truly in need this season; if you have the ability to inspire others, open yourself and help others to better themselves; and if you have the gift of gab—like me—tell as many people as you can that they are capable of giving. May your holiday season be filled with thoughtful actions, friends and family, blessings and love. MAGGIE EDITOR The "holiday spirit" encompasses giving good cheer and well wishes to all you encounter—not necessarily giving gifts or monetary donations. This holiday season, I will plan to give of my most precious gift: time. Spending time with loved ones and those who need human connection is one of the greatest gifts one can give. I hope each of you has a happy, stress-free holiday season filled with heart- warming memories of those you consider to be family. JULIA WRITER We start off the holiday season by giving thanks for all of our blessings on Thanksgiving Day. I believe that giving thanks is important throughout the season. It is so easy to get caught up in the frenzy and forget what the spirit of the season is all about. There are so many people who are truly in need, and sharing our blessings with others is a great way to give. Take a second to realize what is most important to you in life, and make it a priority to give back to those who do not share this blessing with you. It's as simple as identifying a need and matching it with your talents and capabilities. what's inside 4 LOOK FROM OUR HANDS | 4 5 LIVE TRIM YOUR TAILGATE | 5 EARLY DOES IT | 8 IT'S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME … TO MAINTAIN | 10 IS THE CLOCK COUNTING DOWN ON YOUR TICKER? | 11 12 LOCAL BOO SAFE NOW! | 12 OCTOBER FUN AROUND TOWN | 13 ASK BILL | 14 CALENDAR | 15 ON THE COVER: LAURA SIMMONS, BEACH LOVER, MARATHON WALKER AND BREAST CANCER SURVIVOR See her story on page 8 CONTRIBUTORS s t d o m . c o m
