Saint Mary's received the American College of Cardiology's National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR) ACTION Registry–Get With e Guidelines (GWTG) Gold Performance Achievement Award for 2015. Saint Mary's is one of only 78hospitals nationwide to receive the honor. Saint Mary's has also been rated high performing in Heart Failure in the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals for Common Care ratings. e ratings evaluate more than 4,500hospitals nationwide on common inpatient procedures and conditions, and Saint Mary's was rated in the top 11percent. SETTING THE PACE Dr. Mark Schoenfeld has been caring for patients from the Greater Waterbury area for nearly three decades and joins Saint Mary's Hospital as Director of the hospital's new Heart Rhythm Program. A board-certified electrophysiologist nationally recognized for his work in the field of cardiac electrophysiology, Dr. Schoenfeld specializes in identifying and treating heart rhythm disturbances, working with a patient's physican and cardiologist to determine a plan of care. "We identify patients who need further evaluation to determine if symptoms are due to rhythm disturbances," Dr. Schoenfeld said. "In electrophysiology, not only do we diagnose, but we can treat and, in some cases, prevent rhythm disturbances, curing patients before symptoms occur." Dr. Schoenfeld is a graduate of Yale College and Harvard Medical School. He served as a past president of the Heart Rhythm Society and was an internist and resident at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was a Fellow in Cardiology, Cardiac Electrophysiology, and Cardiac Pacing. He established and has served as the Director of the Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacemaker Laboratory at the Hospital of Saint Raphael. He is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Yale University School of Medicine and a Fellow of Saybrook College, Yale University. He is also a Professor in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine, Quinnipiac University.
