Barnabas Health and Robert Wood Johnson Health System signed the definitive agreement outlining their merger on July 14, 2015. Once complete, the transaction will create New Jersey's largest health - care system — and one of the largest in the nation — to be known as RWJ Barnabas Health. The agreement will be submitted to the New Jersey Attorney General for review, in expectation that the merger will be completed in 2016. At that time, RWJ Barnabas Health will annually bring operating revenues of more than $4.5 billion. The new system will be staffed with nearly 30,000 employees, 9,000 physicians, and 1,000 residents and interns, all of whom will annually handle 260,000 inpatient admissions, 2 million outpatient visits, nearly 700,000 Emergency Department visits and 23,000 births. RWJ Barnabas Health will be comprised of 11 acute care hospitals, three children's hospitals, a pediatric rehabilitation hospital, a behavioral health center, ambulatory care centers, and five fitness and wellness centers. CarePoint Health is pleased to announce that CarePoint Health- Bayonne Medical Center will serve as the host platform for the launch of a new general surgery residency program, which will be led by the system's Chief Academic Officer and leader of its educational programs, Maurizio Miglietta, DO. As of July 1, the general surgery residency program had recruited six residents, who will assist with teaching service cases and covering on-call shifts throughout CarePoint Health System. Thomas Simpson, MD, serves as Residency Program Director. In July 2016, CarePoint Health plans to expand existing programs as needed and introduce additional residency programs covering other areas of clinical care. CarePoint Health's accredited education programs will appoint the most qualified applicants, recruit and retain outstanding faculty, and offer comprehensive educational programs while maintaining a balance between training, service and research to support the professional development and personal growth of each resident and fellow. Overlook Medical Center, an Atlantic Health System hospital, has an - nounced that its Breast Center received accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) of the American College of Surgeons. This is the highest form of clinical and quality care recognition for breast centers in the United States. The NAPBC is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to the improvement of the quality of care and monitoring of patient outcomes. This mission is pursued through standard setting, scientific validation, and patient and professional education. Its board member - ship includes professionals from 20 national organizations that reflect the full spectrum of breast care. Overlook Medical Center is also identified as a Best Practice Hospital for Patient Navigation and has been chosen to be part of the NAPBC Best Practice Repository. Nearly 300 golfers recently hit the links for the Hackensack University Medical Center (UMC) Foundation's 18th Annual Invitational Golf Outing at the Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus. This year's outing, which raised more than $750,000 — a record for the Foundation — honored Michael A. Kelly, MD, Chair, Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine, and Chair, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at HackensackUMC. Proceeds from the golf outing will benefit the Orthopaedic Institute at HackensackUMC and the HackensackUMC Foundation. Dr. Kelly was honored due in part to his reputation as a world-class orthopedic surgeon. A record number of individuals partici - pated in both the golf outing and the dinner that followed. The Hackensack University Medical Center (UMC) Foundation recently held its 18th Annual Invitational Golf Outing at the Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus. Shown left to right are: Ulises E. Hackensack University Medical Center has been recognized as one of the 2015 Best Hospitals in America for Stroke Care, the newest award from Women's Choice Award. Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and disability in the United States, and this award identifies centers of excellence across the country for stroke care. The winning hospitals were chosen from 1,120 centers that are certified as either an Advanced Primary Stroke Center or Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center.
