BARNES TO RECOGNIZE EXTRAORDINARY NURSES EVERYWHERE WHO MAKE AN ENORMOUS DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF SO MANY PEOPLE THROUGH THE SUPER- HUMAN WORK THEY DO EVERY DAY. HOW THE AWARD WORKS Longmont United Hospital partnered with the national DAISY Foundation in 2015 and recognizes one DAISY Award winner each quarter. Patients, visitors, physicians, volunteers and fellow staff members are encouraged to nominate a LUH nurse for the DAISY Award. In June, Hilary Leonard was selected as our first DAISY Award winner after being nominated by two patients. As a DAISY winner, Hilary received a DAISY Winner lapel pin, a DAISY Certificate signed by our Chief Nursing Officer, and a certificate for a box of cinnamon rolls, Patrick's favorite food during his hospital stay. To top off the DAISY Ceremony, Hilary was given a sculpture titled "The Healer's Touch," which is hand-carved in Zimbabwe, along with enough tissues to get through the emotions of being a DAISY Award winner. "I think implementation of the DASIY Award at Longmont United Hospital is exciting because it recognizes nurses for nursing," says Maria Cross RN, MSN, Staff Developer for LUH. "It not only awards nurses that are great clinicians, but it really recognizes their efforts to connect with patients, address their individual needs and share their stories." WHEN TO NOMINATE Patients, visitors, volunteers, physicians and LUH staff members are encouraged to nominate a nurse they feel demonstrates extraordinary compassion and skillful care. › Nomination forms and handmade DAISY nomination boxes are located on most nursing units and waiting areas. Once you have filled out the nomination, simply place it into one of our handmade DAISY nomination boxes. Nominations can also be submitted electronically by going to luhcares.org and clicking on the DAISY Award icon.
