When treating a heart attack patient,
physicians stress one simple fact: Time is tissue.

PROMPT TREATMENT NOT only saves lives, it is
also a driving factor in determining long-term heart tissue damage
and quality of life after recovery. at's why last fall, UP Health
System – Marquette launched its helicopter air ambulance service,
helping ensure that patients suffering a cardiac event get the help they
need when they need it. It's changing the face of heart treatment.
"e air ambulance has dovetailed beautifully with the UPHS
regional heart attack emergency system," explains William Jean, MD,
interventional cardiologist with UPHS – Marquette.
At the region's only tertiary care hospital providing open heart
surgery and angioplasty procedures, the heart attack emergency
system bypasses the emergency department and transports a heart
attack patient directly to the UPHS catheterization lab. It also helps
coordinate with outlying hospital emergency rooms to transport heart
attack victims.
