S omeone might have said that the only way to stop a false rumor from spread- ing is to put it on toast and burn it. A fake tale making a lot of rounds now is that Marvin Yagoda has sold his Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum on Orchard Lake Road, Farmington Hills, and whatever goes with it. There is absolutely no truth to this bogus story … The only thing Marvin has sold is his Sam's Drugs on Fenkell in Detroit … not his world-renowned museum … Marvin is a registered pharmacist, and the drugstore was a second business that he also ran after his dad, Sam Yagoda, who opened it in 1931, passed on. "Running two operations finally caught up with me," says Marvin. "Owning and operating the museum deserved my full-time attention." This also goes for his maintaining sales at the museum of hot dogs, ice cream and various goodies, along with home rentals of video and novelty machines … and, for sure, he says, the many bar mitzvahs, birthdays and other parties that are held at his Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum. But there once was a time when Marvin might never have had the chance to create his famed museum … or even been a deep-sea diver, or studier of giant land turtles, or magi- cian, etc., etc. While in the U.S. Army in Texas, Marvin learned to skydive … and, for a moment, must have thought he was a bird … All was so smooth and serene that Marvin says he forgot to pull the cord that opened his parachute … The hint he will never forget came when Marvin saw Earth coming closer very fast, frantically opened the chute… and wiped away the sweat that had suddenly covered his brow. This is the 33rd anniversary of Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum … listed in the World Almanac as one of the 100 most unique museums in the United States. TO MY KNOWLEDGE, Andiamo Bloomfield is only the second upscale restaurant hereabouts to add a separate Jewish-style menu in addition to its regular bill of fare. Years back, in Indian Village off Jefferson, Detroit, one by Van Dyke Place was wonderful while it lasted … Chef then, Keith Supien, for- merly of the Whittier restaurant, was most adept at Jewish-style cooking and had some delicious Jewish presentations … However, Van Dyke Place might have proven to be too far for many to make regular visits there for their favorite dishes … But it was great while it lasted. Andiamo on Telegraph, just south of 15 Mile, won't have that problem when it begins its presentation in this region, beginning Sunday, Nov. 1 … It's independent, Jewish-style menu will be listed exclusively and unattached to the present fine Italian dining offerings presented by Andiamo. YES, TO THOSE who again ask, there is a good reason why Fawzy Mekheel, super waiter at Steven Lelli's Inn on the Green, 12 Mile, Farmington Hills, is called "Doc" by so many … That's because he is a bona-fide graduate from medical school in Cairo, Egypt … One way you can tell is how he carefully debones a Dover sole or slices a Chateaubriand at the table. DON'T STOP JUST at the front part of Noble Fish Japanese grocery store on 14 Mile, Clawson, says Dr. Farhan Huq, ENT resident at Henry Ford Hospital, West Bloomfield … "Keep walking to the back and the small sushi bar restaurant with the best sushi anywhere!" exclaims Dr. Huq. Noble Fish may be small, but its presentations are large … Almost 100 styles of fresh preparations, special rolls, niguris, hand rolls, vegetarian and semi-vegetarian rolls, favorite rolls, combinations. QUESTION & ANSWER DEPT. … "We live on the East Side and have never been to Uncle Harry's Delicatessen, which you wrote is on Mack Avenue. Where did the name come from and who owns it? Is it a full delicates- sen and where on Mack is it?" … Herman and Gertrude Mermelstein. [Uncle Harry's Deli restaurant is at 21809 Mack Ave., St. Clair Shores, phone number, (586) 775-3120. It is named after its previous co-owner, the late "Bathhouse Harry" Meltzer, former owner of Oakland Bath House in Detroit. Uncle Harry's Deli is a full-service delicatessen and now owned by his nephew, Richard Meltzer. His Uncle Harry Meltzer was the brother of Edna Boesky, wife of Sam Boesky, owner of Boesky's on Hastings, 12th Street and later, Darbys.] RIVALRY TOOK time off as Ohio State Buckeye and University of Michigan Wolverine diehards, Sandy (OSU) and Michael (U-M) Hermanoff, put their college competi- tion in the back seat for the day. Instead, love captured the spotlight as bundles-of-joy togetherness folks, Sandy and Michael, recently repeated their 40-year-old marriage vows at Temple Beth El, Bloomfield Township … About 80 friends, relatives and business acquaintances sat in the sanctuary with bouquets of flowers on each side of the chuppah in the colors of Ohio State and Michigan … Rabbi Mark Miller told of his watching Michigan winning on TV … and Cantorial Soloist Rachel Kalmowitz sang "All The Way." Then to the Hermanoff 's home for dinner and entertain- ment … No rain and 55 degrees cold under the tents … But a lot of conviviality … At Temple Beth El, no Ohio State and Michigan battle or flying crystal when Michael's foot broke the glass from which he and Sandy drank their sacramental wine … Just true love. OLDIE BUT GOODIE … Two Jewish gents, Sol and Irving, are on a lake one afternoon when their boat begins to sink. Sol says, "Irving, you know I don't swim so well; please help me." Irving remembered how to carry another swimmer from his lifeguard class when he was just a kid. So begins tugging Sol toward shore. After 10 minutes, he begins to tire. Finally, about 100 feet from shore, Irving asks Sol, "Do you suppose you could float alone?" "What?" exclaims Sol, "this is a hell of a time to be asking for money!" CONGRATS … To Karrie Slominsky on her birthday … To Howard Ball on his birthday … To Gail Shapiro on her birthday. * Danny's email address is dannyraskin@sbcglobal.net.
