Arbit S. MEYER ARBIT, D.P.M., 79, of Boynton Beach and West Bloomfield, died Oct. 3, 2015. Mrs. Elias is survived by her children, Dawn Gershinzon and Jeffrey Gershinzon; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Alfred and Miriam Shaw; sister- in-law, Zana Shaw. obituaries » 64 October 8 • 2015 R uthe Stein, 92, of Southfield, died Oct. 1, 2015. She was born in Detroit, gradu- ated from Central High School and received a teaching degree from Wayne State University. She continued studying Midrash and Jewish studies throughout her life at the Midrasha College of Jewish Studies. Mrs. Stein was a Hebrew teacher for the United Hebrew Schools, instructing generations of students from 1941 to 1987. She became the first principal of the Troy Branch of the United Hebrew Schools, which led to the formation of the Troy Jewish Congregation, now Shir Tikvah. Upon retiring in 1987, she became a member of the board of directors of the Agency for Jewish Education. Mrs. Stein was a member of the American Federation of Teachers, the Labor Zionist Organization of America, Na'amat U.S.A., the Founders Society, the Women's American Art and the Detroit Institute of Arts. She was an avid reader, loved to travel and collected art objects from around the world. She will be remembered as a beautiful, strong, vibrant and independent woman, who was smart, curious and cul- tured. Her gracious and generous spirit touched many lives and she was loved and respected by all. Mrs. Stein is survived by her children, Nancy Frappier, Judith and Cyril Cobb, and Debora Stein; grandchildren, Diana Frappier, Emily Frappier, Erez Cobb and Michael and Shimon Sorga; sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Joseph Savin; great-grand- children, Mia, Marlon, Justice and Maya; sister-in-law, Lillian Mattes; loving nieces, nephews and cousins. She was the beloved wife of the late Saul Charles Stein; cher- ished sister of the late Dorothy and the late Douglas Frazein, the late Seymour H. and the late Ann Lesser; dear sister-in-law of the late Max Mattes; devoted daughter of the late Anna and the late Adolph Bassin. Interment was at Hebrew Memorial Park.
