ROGER GREKIN, 71, of Ann Arbor, died Sept. 29, 2015. MICHAEL KENT, 66, of West Bloomfield, died Sept. 28, 2015. He graduated from Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in 1971 and did his residency at Kern Hospital, where he later became the hospital trea- surer for 10 years. He was a member of the Diplomat of American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgery; and he participated in the Resident Training Committee. Dr. Kent practiced with love and caring for 41 years. He was a selfless man who put his family and friends before him always. His kind soul will stay in their hearts forever. Dr. Kent is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Marilyn Kent; father, Mitchell Kent; son, Matthew Kent of Birmingham; daugh- ter, Melissa "Missy" Kent of Birmingham; sisters and brother-in-law, Sheila Kent Hoff and Steven Hoff of Sarasota, Fla., Corinne Kent of Oak Park; many other loving family members and friends. His Southfield Toastmasters group will undoubtedly miss his speeches, table topics, jokes, etc., and his siblings' lives will never be the same. Burstein, of Fayetteville and Old Forge, N.Y., a prominent attorney and community leader, died of complications from pancreatic cancer on Oct. 1, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He was 75 years old and was among a very small percentage of five-year pancreatic cancer survivors. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Margery Gordon Burstein. They mar- ried on June 23, 1963. Alan was born to Harry S. Burstein, M.D. and Florence Rosen Burstein in Detroit on Sept. 21, 1940, and grew up there, attending Mumford High School. He attended the University of Michigan earning a B.A. in 1962 in pre-legal studies and the University of Michigan Law School, from which he was awarded a juris doctor in 1965. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1966 and was also a member of the Michigan Bar. Alan practiced law for nearly 50 years. After graduating law school, at the urging of his late father-in-law, Albert Gordon, he began his legal career in 1965 at the firm then known as Hiscock, Cowie, Bruce, Lee & Mawhinney, now Barclay Damon. He was a partner at the Hiscock Firm for 20 years. In 1985, he joined the firm Scolaro, Shulman, Cohen, Lawler & Burstein; and in 2013, he became of coun- sel to its successor firm, Scolaro, Fetter, Grizanti, McGough & King P.C. He was a skilled litigator and negotiator who had deep empathy for and dedication to his cli- ents. He was a leader in many local charities and nonprofits. Earlier in his career, he was associate counsel from 1971-72 (Sen. Earl Bridges) and special counsel in 1973 (Sen. Warren Anderson) to the majority leader and presi- dent pro-tem of the New York State Senate. He ran the Syracuse mayoral campaign of John O'Connor against Lee Alexander. Alan was general counsel and corporate secre- tary to Penfield Manufacturing Company in Syracuse, the family business, for many years. He served on the Fifth Judicial District Attorney Grievance Committee by appoint- ment of the Appellate Division of the Fourth Judicial Department. He served as vice president and later was named honorary vice president for life of Temple Adath Yeshurun. He was a moving force and annual toastmaster of the Temple Adath Citizen of the Year Dinner for many years and received the Citizen of the Year award in 1994. Alan loved the Adirondacks, enjoying the family camp on Fourth Lake for more than 50 years, where his family and friends gath- ered each summer. His survivors, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Mark Albert Burstein (Anthony Balbona) of New York City and Robert Gordon Burstein (Dajung Chung) of Edgewater, N.J.; daughter, Florence Levy (Joel) of Denver, Colo.; three grandchil- dren, Hope and Campbell Levy, and Lydia Burstein; brother, Richard J. Burstein (Gayle) of Bloomfield Hills; sister, Diane B. Wainess (James Safran) of Beverly Hills, Mich.; brothers-in-law, Charles L. Gordon (Julie) and Dr. P. Steven Wainess; five nieces and nephews; four great-nieces and great- nephews. Funeral services and burial were in Syracuse, N.Y., on Oct. 2.
