SCHUMACHER AND MOORE AWARDED BY KANSAS HOSPITALS Members of the Kansas Hospital Association (KHA) awarded Eldon Schumacher with the Distinguished Health Care Advocate Award and Kim Moore with the Donald A. Wilson Visionary Award at the KHA Annual Convention and Trade Show in Wichita Sept. 10. Schumacher, Vice President of Reimbursement for the Great Plains Health Alliance, Wichita, was recognized for his exemplary contribution to the health and well-being of the people of Kansas through his leadership and outstanding commit - ment to assure the availability of health care and the improvement of the environment makes acces - sible, quality and affordable health care a reality in Kansas. Kim Moore, President, United Methodist Health Ministry Fund, Hutchinson, was recognized for outstanding, innovative contribution to healthcare delivery, healthcare financing and other initiatives that improve health and clinical outcomes. KU SCHOOL OF MEDICINE-WICHITA GRADUATE PROGRAMS ANNOUNCE NEW DIRECTORS The KU School of Medicine-Wichita (KUSM-W) has added new directors for two of its graduate medical education programs. Bradley Dart, MD, was added as Program Director for the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency July 13. Dr. Dart received his medical degree and completed residency at KUSM-W, followed by a fel - lowship at Vanderbilt. He has been a member of the volunteer faculty at KUSM-W since 2007. Andrew Porter, DO, was appointed Program Director for the Sports Medicine Fellowship at Via Christi July 20. Dr. Porter completed his sports medicine fellowship in the program and has been assistant program director since 2011. He replaces Mark Stovak, MD. GAROLD MINNS, MD, ELECTED MASTER FELLOW IN AMERICAN COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS Garold Minns, MD, Dean of the KU School of Medicine-Wichita (KUSM-W), has been elected a Master Fellow in the American College of Physicians (ACP). The ACP is the national professional organization of internists. It is the largest medical specialty organization in the nation and the second-largest in membership, with 143,000 physicians. Fellowships are awarded for distinction and excellence in contributions made not only within the practice of medicine, but within the community in which the internist lives. Dr. Minns, a 1976 graduate of KUSM-W, has served on the faculty since 1980. In addition to his role as Dean, he is also a Professor and Program Director for Internal Medicine, and Associate Dean of Student Affairs. VIA CHRISTI CLINIC WELCOMES NEW SPECIALIST TO MEDICAL STAFF IN WICHITA Physical medicine and rehabilitation physi- cian Reginald Fears, MD, has joined the staff of Via Christi Clinic in Wichita. He also serves as Medical Director of Via Christi Clinic Rehabilitation Services. Dr. Fears received his medical degree from University of Kansas School of Medicine- Wichita, where he also completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Dr. Fears sees patients at Via Christi Clinic, 1947 Founders' Circle, in Wichita. Appointments can be made by calling 316-613-4756. WESLEY AND KU SCHOOL OF MEDICINE- WICHITA PARTNER TO RECRUIT ADDITIONAL PEDIATRIC HOSPITALISTS FOR NEW CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL KU Wichita Pediatric Hospitalists, the physi- cian group that takes care of Wesley Children's inpatient pediatric patients, has recruited four new physicians since the children's hospital announcement. Ralph Martello, MD, and Todd Brubaker, DO, hired recently, join hospital - ists Lisa Unruh, MD, and Brent Duran, DO, who were recruited this spring. "Children's hospitals provide the tailored environments that children need in order to cope and feel comfortable while they heal," Dr. Martello says. "I have seen firsthand how children can heal quicker in these environments, and there is nothing more rewarding than seeing a sick child get better." Since announcing the children's hospital project, Wesley Children's has successfully recruited eight new physicians, representing specialties including pediatric surgery, pediatric cardiology and pediatric critical care. VIA CHRISTI CLINIC WELCOMES NEW FAMILY MEDICINE PHYSICIAN TO NEWTON Family medicine physician Ashley Weis, DO, has joined the staff at Via Christi Clinic in Newton. She received her medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, Kansas City, Missouri. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, Quincy. Dr. Weis sees patients at Via Christi Clinic, 700 Medical Center Drive, in Newton.
