Dedication and a little assistance from CHISt. Anthony Hospital helped the Pendleton High School Culinary Team achieve success at recent regional and national cooking competitions. In April 2015, the members of the Pendleton High School Culinary Team—Tanner Brown, Hailey Crosgrove, and Teare Tinhof—and their coach, Kristin Swaggart, headed to Portland, to compete in the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) State Leadership Conference. Prior to their departure, they worked with Justin Norris, their assistant coach and Executive Chef at CHISt. Anthony Hospital. Inside the hospital's kitchen, members implemented the essentials such as taste and plating. The squad also donated their time during the 2014 Festival of Trees and other CHI St. Anthony Hospital events to gain real-world experience. Their eorts paid o—the budding chefs won a gold medal and earned an invitation to the FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. For three days a week, the students worked with Kristin and Justin on the national competition menu. In July, they competed against 23other teams and brought home a bronze medal. "Their wins demonstrate that if you focus and practice, you can make big things happen," Justin says.
