By keeping your blood pressure in check, you can take steps to improve your heart health. Better Sleep (Studies) Ahead "We've been looking to relocate to a space better suited for outpatient sleep studies," says Lee Higginbotham, Chief Operating Officer for Frankfort Regional Medical Center. "In this new space, we can broaden and improve our services." "The remodel gives a 2015 update to our sleep lab," says Ronald Shashy, MD, Sleep Center Medical Director at Central Kentucky Sleep Facility. "Our medical office building is connected to the hospital by a pedway, so we are close by but with a different address and an added first-floor convenience." THE REMODEL Our four sleep rooms resemble hotel rooms and include Sleep Number beds, soundproof walls, free cable and Wi-Fi access, room-controlled temperature and handicapped-accessible showers. With extended hours and new heavy duty blinds to block out the sun, we now can accommodate daytime sleep appointments for shift workers. We extended our sleep apnea testing to include home treatment options. We also expanded our pediatric service line and received another accreditation by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Â Call 502-226-7691 or 888-75-SLEEP to schedule a sleep evaluation. Heart Disease Prevention 101 Heart disease and stroke rank in the top five causes of death. Through our Cardiac Rehab Phase II program, we help promote heart awareness. Our Cardiac Rehab program helps people living with cardiac diseases stay as healthy as possible after surgery. We walk them through exercises and diet choices that will help them reduce or lower their blood pressure, a major cause of heart disease. "We take Cardiac Rehab patients' blood pressure at each visit and record them on a card," says Patricia Slone, RN, Clinical Care Coordinator for Cardiac Rehab at Frankfort Regional. "We educate them about their blood pressure range—normal, caution or high—and the cards we hand patients have information about how they can lower their blood pressure to within a normal range." Beyond our blood pressure cards, we offer information about other risk factors for heart disease, including sodium intake, healthy body mass index levels, smoking cessation, cholesterol levels and diabetes prevention. SAVING A MILLION HEARTS At Frankfort Regional Medical Center, we take your health seriously. Recently, we became the first and only recipient of an award through the Million Hearts program—a national effort to keep Americans heart healthy and prevent one million cases of heart disease—for obtaining 11,000 blood pressures since 2009. Â To schedule your cardiac rehab appointment, call 502-226-7526. Ronald Shashy, MD Sleep Center Medical Director Now located in the Frankfort Medical Pavilion, the Central Kentucky Sleep Facility is more accessible to patients, but that's not all. 7
