AS YOU SORT THROUGH GIFT WRAP,
TOYS, AND TISSUE PAPER THIS HOLIDAY
SEASON, MAKE SURE YOUR RECYCLING
KNOW-HOW IS UP TO DATE.
OR NOT?
IT MAY SURPRISE you to learn that not all plastic and
paper items are equal when it comes to recycling. Here's what
to repurpose and what to trash.
RECYCLE THIS:
In Eau Claire and Chippewa counties, you can recycle:
✳ aluminum cans
✳ cardboard boxes, including gift boxes
✳ glass bottles
✳ holiday cards and envelopes
✳ magazines and newspapers—Dispose of the plastic sleeves
before putting them in the recycling bin.
✳ paper bags, including gift bags
✳ paper gift wrap
✳ plastic milk jugs and other plastic food containers
DISCARD THAT:
You don't want to put these items in your recycling bin:
✳ batteries —Alkaline batteries, such as AAA, AA, C, and D
batteries are safe to toss in the trash. Contact your county's
recycling agency to find out how to safely dispose of other
batteries, especially those containing heavy metals.
✳ bows and ribbons
✳ bubble wrap
✳ hangers
✳ light bulbs
✳ plastic bags
✳ plastic, dyed, or laminated gift wrap
✳ plastic toys
✳ Styrofoam products, such as packing peanuts
and egg cartons
