IS THERE A Doctor in the House? Convenience, WITHOUT THE COST The next time you need to find a new primary care provider, let the Patient Request Line from King's Daughters' Health do the research for you. "WE'RE HERE TO make finding a primary care provider as smooth and easy as possible," says Cheryl Rice, Patient Access Supervisor at KDH. "Patients no longer have to call 20 different providers to find the one that's right for them." When a person calls in, a Patient Request Line liaison takes his or her address, phone number, age, gender, medical history and insurance information. The liaison also asks other questions, including whether the person would prefer a male or female provider and whether he or she has a specific condition, such as diabetes, that requires specialized expertise. Making the Match The liaison then uses this information to find a provider who meets the individual's needs and takes his or her insurance plan. "We call the provider we think is the best fit, and that provider will review the patient's information," says Amy Bird, Patient Access Director at KDH. "If the provider feels it's a good match, he or she will call the patient directly to schedule an appointment." Typically, the process takes less than a week from the initial call to the time patients are matched with a provider. During that time, KDH maintains contact with patients to keep them informed. ■ Do you need a primary care provider? If so, let us help you. Call the Patient Request Line at (812) 801-8995. Save time and money the next time you need lab work with direct access testing, available at King's Daughters' Health. SIMPLE LAB TESTS, such as pregnancy tests, diabetes panels and strep tests, shouldn't require a lengthy wait for a doctor's visit, and they shouldn't drain your bank account. At KDH, you can have these, and more than 20 others, at a time when it's convenient for you. Prices range from $15 to $75. Testing doesn't require an appointment or a physician's referral, saving the time and expense of an office visit. Because payment is required at the time of service and insurance companies aren't billed, we're able to offer many tests at a more affordable price than what other facilities charge. "Direct access testing is great for uninsured individuals or people with a high insurance deductible that requires a lot of out-of-pocket costs for lab and doctor visits," says Michelle Hill, MT, Administrative Lab Director at KDH. "But it's also great if you want to have lab or test results handy so you can discuss them with your doctor at an upcoming visit." In order to comply with federal privacy laws, results are mailed directly to patients, Hill adds. If you want to share the results with a healthcare provider, you can make that request at the time of testing. ■ For a full list of available tests and pricing, visit www.kdhmadison.org, click on "Services" and then "Direct Access Testing," or call (812) 801-0981.
