On Oct. 13, 2015, Deborah Blenner, MD, along with senior leadership from St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially launch a new Weight Management Program affiliated with Siena Proactive Internal Medicine at 323 Middle Country Road, Suite 3, in Smithtown. Smithtown Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Barbara Franco was also in attendance to help cut the ceremonial ribbon. Part of a faith-based organization, the facility was blessed by Father Xavier Lakra and Reverend Mark Applewhite. St. Catherine's Executive Vice President/Chief Administrative Officer Paul J. Rowland was also in attendance. Robert Welling, a former patient of Dr. Blenner, came to offer his support and share his success story. Welling started his journey with a similar program more than five years ago under the manage - ment of Dr. Blenner. St. Charles Hospital has received its fourth consecutive "A" rating from a national group that assesses hospitals on safety. St. Charles first participated in the Leapfrog Hospital Survey in spring 2014 and received an "A" grade in spring 2014, fall 2014 and spring 2015. The letter-based rating system is developed by The Leapfrog Group, a non - profit organization that evaluates hospi- tals nationwide. The Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY) is pleased to announce the first call for abstracts for the 11th Resident/Fellow and Medical Student Poster Symposium, which is scheduled to be held from 2 to 4:30 p.m. on April 15, 2016, at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, New York. Deadline for abstract submission is 4 p.m. on Jan. 25, 2016. Please alert any interested colleagues. Participants must be current MSSNY members. Membership is free for first-time resident members. On Oct. 23, 2015, the NuHealth/NUMC Diversity & Inclusion Council celebrated its 2nd Annual Diversity Day with the entire staff at Nassau University Medical Center focusing on diversity, inclusion, cultural awareness and health literacy.
