Outcomes in Action PEOPLE ARE FREE FROM ABUSE AND NEGLECT Although CHI Friendship strives every day to be innovative in our approach to provide excellent services to people with disabilities, we must never forget the basics. We must keep people safe, healthy, and respected. One way we support people to be free from abuse and neglect is by holding an annual training on the subject for their sta. Every employee attends this training each year, organized by CHI Friendship's Abuse/ Neglect/Exploitation (ANE) investigators. These investigators ensure that the trainings are dierent every year so that, regardless of length of service, each employee can learn something new. This year, attendees didn't receive training—they provided it! Employees were placed in small groups and assigned one topic surrounding our ANE system, and then they trained the other attendees on that topic. The groups were extremely creative with their presentations, deviating from a lecture-style training and instead deciding to train coworkers through posters, skits, and even poems. Everyone took true ownership of the training, and it sent a powerful message that sta were educating each other on the importance of keeping people safe. Todd Lueck Lynn Bale ANE Investigators PEOPLE EXPRESS SPIRITUALITY This past August, Lynn's mother, Joanne, introduced Lynn to Pastor MartinAvery of Fargo Faith United MethodistChurch. Pastor Martin has many years of experience working with people with developmental disabilities and volunteered to join Lynn'steam. Pastor Martin explained, "Many times we take care of people's physical needs and entertainment needs, but spirituality gets left out. By being a part of Lynn's team I am exposed to ideas that work forher." During one of Lynn's team meetings, Pastor Martin found out about Lynn's love for Doritos. It was then that he suggested blessing Doritos for communion in order for Lynn to enjoy the experience even more. With the help of Lynn's mother and Pastor Martin, Lynn now enjoys receiving communion on a monthly basis. The creativity and willingness it took from Pastor Martin to suggest blessing Doritos is truly inspiring. Bringing spirituality back to Lynn's team has been very important to Lynn and her mother, and being accepted by Pastor Martin has certainly been a blessing for Lynn. PEOPLE PARTICIPATE IN THE LIFE OF THE COMMUNITY Meet the guy who has been to 40straight Bison football games and counting—Todd Lueck (pictured above) is known as one of the biggest Bison fans in Fargo, North Dakota. On Bison game days, Todd is one of the rst fans anxiously waiting in line for the gates of the Fargodome to open. He enjoys watching the pregame warm-up and reading his program before the game to get a good look at the opposing team. During the game, Todd stands up for each kicko and third down and cheers loudly on every big play. Todd also enjoys mingling with his fellow Bison fans before, during, and after the game. Todd truly participates in the life of the community and has realized his personal goals by attending Bison games with fellow fans. Another amazing achievement for Todd is that he has made the last four trips to Frisco, Texas, to cheer on the Bison to win the National Championships. Todd is hoping there will be a fth trip in 2016! GoBison! CHI FRIENDSHIP /// www.chifriendship.com 3
