A Bold Next Step for Care THE NAPBC RECOGNIZES breast centers that are dedicated to improving patient outcomes through a multidisciplinary approach to patient care. From supporting women who are receiving their first mammograms to providing compassionate chemotherapy treatments for patients battling breast cancer, Claxton-Hepburn's Breast Health Center offers quality services for everyone. "Obtaining this certification demonstrates the excellent level of patient care Claxton-Hepburn provides to each breast care patient," says Kay Zimmer, LMSW/CBPN-C, patient navigator and oncology social worker at Claxton-Hepburn. "The accreditation signifies that we are following best practices when serving our patients." To receive accreditation, breast centers must meet a set of national standards, including interdisciplinary patient management and level of responsibility and accountability. Once compliant with the NAPBC standards, the healthcare organization submits an official application. After the application is reviewed and deemed eligible, the breast center is actively surveyed to ensure it meets accreditation requirements. "Our team is dedicated to achieving the NAPBC standards," says Kiri Brandy, MD, breast surgeon on staff at Claxton-Hepburn. "When patients visit our Breast Health Center, we want them to know they are receiving top-of-the-line care. Exceeding these standards and receiving the accreditation is another way to show our commitment." The Breast Health Center is an interdisciplinary facility that works in tandem with other departments such as the Richard E. Winter Cancer Center, which is recognized by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer as a Center of Excellence.
