In 1995, Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital partnered with what is now known as Hospital Corporation of
America, or HCA, to create the Methodist Healthcare System. Through this partnership, Methodist Healthcare
Ministries of South Texas, Inc. was founded.
Since founding, Methodist Healthcare Ministries has retained one-half ownership of the Methodist Healthcare
SystemDthe largest healthcare system in South TexasDand provides local governance to ensure the needs of
the greater community are served. This creates a unique avenue to ensure the Methodist Healthcare System
and it provides revenue to Methodist Healthcare Ministries for its programs.
Thanks to the vision set forth by our Board of Directors and their continuous leadership, Methodist Healthcare
Ministries has grown from one program of $300,000 serving 1,100 clients, to a budgeted expenditure of more
than $77 million in 2015 to impact nearly 800,000 lives across South Texas.
