STAY SAFE THIS WINTER WITH THESE HELPFUL TIPS. Explore with your toes to determine how slippery a surface is before placing your full weight onit. Keep your hands out of your pockets so you can recover your balance or help soften a fall. Lighten your load to reduce your risk for slipping and falling. Take small, cautious steps. When stepping from a curb, step down, not out. Wear appropriate footwear. Boots with gripping soles will provide the traction you need on snow and ice. If your injury cannot wait for a doctor's appointment, urgent care can handle minor sprains and cuts as well as earaches, sore throats and the flu. Call 911 if your injuries are more severe or life-threatening. "If the injury you sustain from a fall is swollen and painful, you should visit an urgent care center," said Dr. Mickey Wyse, Medical Director for Urgent Care Centers at Saint Mary's Hospital. "If the injury shows a significant deformity, a bone is out of place, or there's an open fracture—bone is poking through the skin—you should seek medical attention at the emergency department." Partners for Better Care A t Saint Mary's Hospital, our physicians, nurses, and staff are working together to create the best possible experience for our patients. We want to exceed your expectations—but we need your help to continually improve. is fall, Saint Mary's partnered with Press Ganey—the leading provider of patient satisfaction surveys in the Northeast—to help us learn more about the experiences of our patients. Saint Mary's has contracted with Press Ganey to mail and email patient satisfaction surveys to our inpatients, outpatients, and Emergency Department patients. is new survey replaces our former method of calling patients at home to request feedback about their recent hospital experience. e survey takes just a few minutes and can be conveniently completed on your personal computer, smartphone, or tablet. Our new digital format makes it possible to collect and analyze responses in a timely manner so improvements can be made much quicker than before. e survey also includes questions from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS), the first national, standardized, publicly reported patient satisfaction survey. is allows us to see how we're performing compared with other hospitals and health systems in the U.S. Want to tell us about your recent experience? We're listening. Watch your mail or email inbox for our patient satisfaction survey. With your feedback as a guide, we can take steps to continually improve the experience of all our patients.
