3-D
TECHNOLOGY PROVIDES
PRECISE, PERSONAL RESULTS
S
urgeons at Saint Mary's Hospital are using 3-D printing technology to help patients regain
mobility and improve their quality of life. For Richard Pfurr, 75, of Cheshire, the technology
helped to alleviate pain and repair damage in both knees. His two total knee replacement surgeries
were performed using implants that were custom fit with the aid of a 3-D printer.
"ey fit like a glove on a hand," said Dr. Eric Olson, an orthopedic surgeon with Waterbury
Orthopedic Associates, who performed both of Richard's surgeries at Saint Mary's.
