++++++++++++++++++++++++ + + ++++++++++++++++++++++++ HOSPITAL ROUNDS +++ +++ WHAT'S NEW AT AREA HOSPITALS Affinity Medical Center in Massillon has been granted a three-year term of ac- creditation in Echocardiography in the area of Adult Transthoracic by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC). The IAC grants accreditation only to those facilities that are found to be providing quality patient care, in compliance with national standards. Akron Children's Hospital, in a recent IRS filing, reported community benefits totaling more than $72.5 million in 2010. This includes programs and services targeted in these areas as well as numerous other pediatric health initiatives that have a positive impact on the physical and emotional health of chil- dren and teens in northeast Ohio. Akron General Medical Center is now home to a new 10-bed Neuro Intensive Care Unit. The new unit is the first dedicated neuro ICU in Summit County and one of only five in the state of Ohio. It is designed specifically for patients who are recovering or suffering from strokes or other life-threatening neurological diseases and injuries. Alliance Community Hospital recently cel- ebrated the grand reopening of its Outpatient Therapies Center. The newly renovated ground-level facility, conveniently located in the plaza just west of the hospital, offers much more space, new equipment, additional private therapy rooms and an expanded area for children. There's also a designated parking area. Aultman Hospital in Canton has opened its first outpatient counseling facility. The Aultman Counseling Center, located at 3730 Whipple Ave, NW, offers a full line of outpatient psychiatric services. Individual and group therapy are offered short- and long- term, depending on the individual's needs. Aftercare group therapy is also available. Cleveland Clinic has launched the NextGen Home Sperm Banking Service, which uses an at-home collection kit and overnight shipping to expand fertility preservation options to men throughout the United States. Research has shown that fertility preservation is a sig- nificant concern of men who are diagnosed with various types of cancer. The Fairview/Lakewood Hospital Integrated Network Cancer Program has received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer. The Cleveland Clinic cancer pro- grams at Fairview and Lakewood hospitals are fully integrated into the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Institute. Lake Health is making it easier than ever for smokers to kick the habit. The health system now offers medication-based therapies such as Chantix and Zyban as part of "Up In Smoke" — a physician-supervised smoking cessation program that combines psychologi- cal, physical and behavioral strategies to help smokers conquer nicotine addiction. Marymount Hospital has opened a new Surgery Center and entranceway. The three- story, 45,000-square-foot addition features seven operating rooms, which are 50 percent larger to allow for the use of state-of-the-art technologies, and a minor procedure room. The new center began serving patients in late March. Mercy Medical Center's Health & Fitness Center recently earned certification as a medical fitness facility by the Medical Fitness Association — the country's leading organiza- tion dedicated solely to medically integrated outcomes and accountability based fitness facilities. This certification is recognized as a mark of excellence in the health and wellness industry. The MetroHealth Foundation has received from the Bridgestone Invitational and its partner, Northern Ohio Golf Charities Foundation, $50,000 to support the 44 | Cleveland-Akron-Canton MD NEWS s MDNEWS.COM s MAY-JUNE 2012 MetroHealth Simulation Center. Slated to open this summer, the Center will include high-fidelity computerized simulators and vir- tual reality based platforms that help simulate actual medical scenarios for training of health care providers. Parma Community General Hospital has established an Integrative Care Program to provide a continuum between active therapy and preparation for end-of-life care. Physicians and staff offer support for decision-making and provide a seamless model of care. The program emphasizes personal choice and framework for a clear discussion of goals, eliminating unnecessary tests and treatments. Robinson Memorial Hospital is home to a highly advanced 256-slice CT scanner that renders three-dimensional (3D) images of the body. The SOMATOM Definition Flash CT machine by Siemens can capture the body's skeleton, organs and blood vessels in the minutest of detail with the least amount of radiation in the shortest amount of time. Southwest General's Breast Center is an American College of Radiology (ACR) Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. This designa- tion recognizes the Breast Center for obtain- ing full accreditation in stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound- guided breast biopsy. Summa Health System opened a new com- munity health center — Summa Center at New Seasons. The 10,000-square-foot health center, which is located at 1493 S. Hawkins Ave. in Akron, provides primary care services, conducts community health initiatives and identifies public health solutions through education and community partnerships. Summa Akron City Hospital is reportedly the first Ohio hospital to receive the American Heart Association's (AHA) Mission: Lifeline Heart Attack Receiving Center Accreditation.
