Summa Barberton Hospital continues prog- ress on the construction of the hospital's new emergency department to be operational in May 2013. The emergency department will have 32 beds (compared with the current 18), provide an additional 10-bed "fast track" treatment area and will triple the square foot- age of the existing facility.
Summa Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital's 6th annual Black Tie event was a success. More than 340 attendees packed the Galaxy Restaurant in Wadsworth on March 17. The event raised funds to improve patient care through implementation of Vocera's mobile communications solution throughout the hospital.
Union Hospital has installed new stereotactic breast biopsy technology to more quickly and accurately diagnose breast cancer with less post-procedure pain, a shorter recovery time, and immediate return to work or regular activity. Unlike surgical biopsy there is little or no scar tissue to distort future mammograms.
University Hospitals (UH) recently opened a health center in Portage County. Located in Barrington Town Center at 55 North Chillicothe Rd in Aurora, the new UH Aurora Health Center offers family medicine, urgent care for adults and children, and advanced laboratory and radiology services in coordi- nation with care provided throughout the UH health system.
UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital is partnering with Ohio's other five children's hospitals for research on childhood asthma and caring for drug-addicted newborns. The collaboration comes at the urging of Gov. John Kasich who granted $2 for this research to pediatric hospitals in Cleveland, Columbus, Akron, Dayton, Toledo and Cincinnati. s
