With this issue, we begin our 20th year of publishing Cleveland/Akron/Canton MD News. Our goal from day one has been to share the good news of local health care. With more than 40 hospitals and 7,000 physicians in our circulation area, there's been no shortage of good news to share. Our cover story physician, Dominic J. Bagnoli, MD, is a prime example. Dr. Bagnoli was pictured on the cover of MD News in 1998, six years after he and two physician colleagues founded Emergency Medicine Physicia ns (EMP). EMP is now the second la rgest physician-owned emergency medicine group in the nation. It 's a lso the foundation for U.S. Acute Care Solutions, a new company Dr. Bagnoli launched last year. The two spotlight stories for this issue focus on patient care. In the first, vascular surgeons Jill Zink, MD, and Loren Masterson, MD, describe recent advances in abdomina l aortic aneurysm (A A A) repair at A kron General. In the second, Aviv Ben-Meir, MD, Director of Lake Health's Bariatric Surgery Center, shows the clinical benefits of combining bariatric surgery with treatment for reflux disease.
