Central New York 05-820 PUBLISHER from the ............................................... Richard Keene PUBLISHER Central New York ............................................... rkeene@mdnews.com 315-446-8331 ............................................... @MDNewsCentralNY Thank you very much for reading the March/April edition of MD News. Once again, we examine the world-class health care available right here in Central New York. Our cover story features the spinal surgery program at Crouse Hospital. During the past four years, Crouse Hospital has worked to establish a collaborative spine surgery program that enhances patient outcomes by unifying treatment protocols throughout the surgical process. Led by Ross Moquin, MD, FA ANS, Chief of the Department of Neurosurgery and Medical Director of Spinal Surgery at Crouse Hospital, the collaborative group of 10 surgical specialists blends orthopedic emphasis on the spine's structural elements with neurosurgical concentration on the spine's neurological components. Melding the knowledge and skill of leading area specialists permits the team to treat all pathologies of the axial skeleton and spinal cord and enables them to advance the science of spine care and disease management. Our feature story is on Carthage Area Hospital's Orthopedic Program. For nearly two decades, Carthage Area Hospital has been servicing the civilian and military populations of the area. High volumes of orthopedic cases among the servicemen and women at Fort Drum drove a need for local orthopedic surgeons and expedited the formation of a partnership between Fort Drum and the hospital. To enhance its orthopedic services, Carthage named Harvard-fellowship-trained, upper extremity specialist Nata Parnes, MD, as its Director of Orthopedics. Having completed additional fellowships under the tutelage of leading orthopedic experts in Switzerland and in France, Dr. Parnes brings a world of experience and exceptional training with him.
