THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT sta at Mercy Medical Center-Centerville works with many people who are dealing with more than just a health condition. This could mean listening to people who are lonely, sharing time with people who might be homeless or passing on information about the healthcare system, such as providing details about getting a primary care physician or working with social services to get patients the care they need outside of the Emergency Department. Sometimes serving a patient's needs can be more basic, such as helping out when a patient doesn't have a ride. One such instance occurred recently over the holidays. A patient didn't have transportation and didn't have anyone to call for a ride home. Cody Babbitt, RN, had been involved with the patient's care and, at the conclusion of his shift, noticed the patient was still waiting. Cody didn't hesitate to oer the patient a ride home. His co workers were touched by Cody's compassion and were proud of his LiveUp example. Thank you, Cody, for LivingUp and letting grace be your guide. Cody Babbitt, RN LiveUP moment LEARN TO LIVEUP Kindle your kindness with these challenges. This month: Visit a cafe with someone with character traits you'd like to have rub off on you. This week: Before you enter situations that you know will try your patience, list five reasons to be grateful. Tomorrow: Set reminders on your phone at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to ask yourself, "What's one way you can LiveUp right now?" Today: Send one encouraging message to a friend for every 10 minutes you spend on social media. MERCY MEDICAL CENTERCENTERVILLE /// www.mercycenterville.org 7
