From the President Dear Friend: Names are important, and a great deal of thought goes into making the perfect choice, whether we're naming our children or our community organizations and businesses. We have important news to share about our hospital name. We are honored to announce that on April 5, we became Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital. This is a historic milestone in our 90-year legacy of care and, at the same time, a very natural progression. This shift has been developing for five years, beginning in 2011. That's when All Children's Hospital and Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM) integrated, opening doors for our hospital to better serve patient families by leveraging our clinical and pediatric specialty strengths with JHM's global reputation for research and medical teaching. During these years, we have built upon our shared mission by opening four new specialized institutes through this partnership: the Johns Hopkins All Children's Heart Institute, the Johns Hopkins All Children's Cancer & Blood Disorders Institute, the Johns Hopkins All Children's Institute for Brain Protection Sciences and—last but certainly not least—the Johns Hopkins All Children's Maternal, Fetal & Neonatal Institute, which you can read about in detail throughout these pages. With this name change, we are further committing to our promise and our potential to act as leaders in pediatric health, providing hope, genuine care and healthier futures for children. As our growing team of world-class specialists works collaboratively on the front lines of discovery to develop cutting-edge treatments and to make cures more achievable, we will continue to reimagine and redefine what "care" truly means. All the while, it will continue to be our patients and families who remain at our core and who inspire us to press forward on their behalf. As always, our name remains our mission—to serve all children. You are an integral part of our hospital family, and we thank you for your continued support as we move forward on our journey toward becoming a national leader in pediatric medicine while remaining a treasure in our local community. We are grateful to be able to build upon our legacy of compassionate care for all children, and we celebrate your impact on making our work possible. Thank you for being a part of our evolving community. Sincerely, Jonathan M. Ellen, M.D. President and Physician-in-Chief Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital Vice Dean and Professor of Pediatrics Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Spring 2016 3
