Mocktails for Moms There's no better time than during pregnancy to focus on your overall health: for you and your baby. Consuming the right foods is one big step, and the other side of that coin is eliminating anything that might be harmful to your baby's development, such as tobacco and alcohol. While it might be challenging to give up wine and fruity mixed drinks for several months, it doesn't mean you have to sip strictly water at a party. Here are some "mocktails" that are not only fun to drink but also contain ingredients that are good for the health of your baby. Directions: Run the lime around the rim of a glass and dip it into granola. Muddle (mash up) the fruit, put it in the bottom of the glass, and pour in the lime juice. Add in ginger, mango juice, grapefruit juice. Stir and serve over ice. Mango Momgarita Ingredients: 4 to 6 raspberries (or 2 strawberries) 1 tablespoon lime juice 1 teaspoon grated ginger ¼ cup mango juice ¼ cup grapefruit juice 1 lime wedge (optional garnish) Ground granola (optional garnish) The Banana Mamma Ingredients: 3 bananas 2 cups crushed ice 1 cup reduced-sugar lemon sorbet 3 cups grapefruit juice Directions: Blend the bananas, lemon sorbet and grapefruit juice together. Then pour into a pitcher filled with crushed ice. Garnish with a slice of lemon or grapefruit. Momjito Ingredients: 1/2 cup torn fresh basil leaves 1/2 cup torn fresh mint leaves 1 lime, cut into small wedges 1 tsp organic evaporated cane juice 2 cups sparkling water Fresh mint sprigs for garnish, optional Directions: Place basil, mint, lime and cane juice in the bottom of a large martini shaker and muddle mixture until lime releases most of its juice and herbs are slightly bruised.
