ADVANCING Sportsmanship in Sports Medicine Redmond Regional Medical Center is teaming up with Advance Rehabilitation to connect hospital-level care to the playing field. Athletic trainers and orthopaedic physicians from Rome Area Surgeons link with medical staff from Redmond Regional to provide emergency care at high school sports games, coordinate sports physicals and eliminate duplicate examinations between care providers. "If an injury occurs during a game, the Advance Redmond relationship allows certified athletic trainers to interface with EMS staff, enabling both trainers and EMS to work rapidly and smoothly to get players back on the field without repeating exams," says Sam Echols, Physical Therapist and Co-owner of Advance Rehabilitation. "Through this partnership, sports medicine patients now also have access to a network of family practice physicians and orthopaedic surgeons off the field, ensuring a complete continuum of care." For more information about the services offered at Redmond Regional Medical Center or for a physician referral, call MedLine at 800.242.5662. ................................................ From the CEO I'm one of those unusual people (others might offer a less flattering description) who enjoy working in the yard. If you are similarly afflicted, you'll enjoy this edition of connect magazine. The articles and recipes in the "Homegrown Health" section are particularly interesting as is the information about our emergency services at both Redmond and Cartersville Medical Centers (in the event your yard work goes awry). I've written before about my bad back—caused, believe it or not, by yard work! I'm glad to report my back is much better since my spine surgery. Did you know Redmond has the number one spine surgery program in the state? We do. Jenna Jennings talks about the services available at our NeuroSpine Center in this edition. You'll also find interesting information about minimally invasive surgical procedures performed by our surgeons and enabled by state-of-the-art equipment at Cartersville Medical Center and Redmond Regional Medical Center. We highlight some of the latest General Surgery, Gynecologic Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Thoracic Surgery and Urologic Surgery techniques that are producing exceptional results for our patients. Please also note that we've added new high-technology equipment at The Hope Center in Cartersville that our oncologists are using to enhance radiation therapy treatment options for cancer patients. If your summer plans include healthcare, or if unexpected medical problems arise, please know Redmond Health System has an array of services and professionals ready to meet your needs. We wish you a safe, healthy and happy summer!
