CONNECT // 11 your + health A Streamlined Approach to EMERGENCY CARE When you visit the Emergency Department (ER), you want to know you'll be treated like a priority. You also want an emergency staff who knows how to streamline care for high- and low-risk patients, alike. At Redmond Regional Medical Center, our sports track and fast track are quickening the pace of emergency medicine. Sports Track Developed in concert with Advance Redmond— our partnership with Advance Rehabilitation—the sports track begins on the field. When a local athlete is injured during a game, an Advance Rehab trainer is on hand to evaluate the injury and notify Emergency Medical Services (EMS) at Redmond Regional if necessary. Advance Rehab or EMS then notifies our ER of the incoming patient, allowing us to prepare for evaluation prior to his or her arrival. "These young athletes are being admitted more quickly, and parents are assured their children will be given personalized treatment along the way," says Brad Westerbeck, Athletic Trainer and Director of Sports Medicine for Advance Redmond. "The sports track continues after treatment, as well, as we help the family navigate options for follow-up treatment." Fast track The fast track at Redmond Regional begins the moment a patient enters the ER. During peak times, a triage nurse is stationed at the entrance to quickly assess patients and determine whether or not they require immediate evaluation. If a patient is not experiencing life-threatening symptoms, he or she is sent to the fast track room, a five-bed suite dedicated to level IV and V patients. The nurse or physician's assistant assigned to the fast track room remains with these patients throughout the entire process. In addition to the sports and fast tracks, our ER also features: • Bedside lab testing for results in 10 minutes or less • EMS mobile echocardiography to identify heart attacks before arrival • A door-to-computed tomography protocol for acute stroke patients "Our Sports and Fast Track are just two examples of the many ways Redmond Regional's Emergency Room is working to further reduce a patient's wait time and continue to enhance the quality of care that our patients experience every day in our Emergency Room," says Kay Rhodes, Chief Nursing Officer at Redmond Regional. ................................................ Redmond Regional ER—By the Clock On average: • A triage nurse completes evaluations in 8 minutes. • Bedside lab testing yields results within 10 minutes. • Heart attack patients receive lifesaving treatment 38 minutes faster than the national standard of 90 minutes. • Patients are discharged 150 minutes after arrival.
