CONNECT // 3 joint + health The Next Level of Spine Surgery The Redmond NeuroSpine Center, a collaborative effort with the Total Joint Center, opens in summer 2012. The center combines board-certified neurosurgeons, state-of-the-art operating rooms and equipment, and patient-focused care to create a healthy and comfortable environment for spine treatments. Redmond NeuroSpine offers the largest neurosurgery team in Northwest Georgia. Offering all neurosurgical procedures under one roof provides comprehensive care for patients, which results in shorter hospital stays and better patient outcomes. Above and Beyond for Patients In addition to the dedicated neurosurgical team and facility, Redmond NeuroSpine Center goes the extra step to make patients feel comfortable. Each patient room features a sleeper chair for a loved one to stay with the patient, and the facility is equipped with complimentary Wi-Fi. Patients are also required to participate in a preoperative class designed for procedures at the NeuroSpine Center and have access to assistance from a specialized clinical navigator. "The Redmond NeuroSpine Center is designed to more personally involve patients in their care," says Jenna Jennings, RN, Clinical Navigator at Redmond NeuroSpine Center. "Through this higher level of engagement, patients can completely understand their procedure and how to prepare, leading to better patient experiences." The National Institutes of Health reports that eight out of 10 people in the United States suffer from some type of back pain. For those suffering from this persistent pain, Redmond Regional Medical Center's new NeuroSpine Center can offer solutions. Redmond Regional Medical Center has been the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions for the hospital's orthopaedic and spine services, including: • Five-star rating for Overall Orthopaedic Services for five years in a row • Five-star rating for Spine Surgery for five years in a row • HealthGrades Orthopaedic Surgery Excellence Award™ for five years in a row • Joint Commission certified in Total Hip replacement • Joint Commission certified in Total Knee replacement with the Gold Seal of Approval • No. 1 in Georgia for spine surgery for three years in a row • Ranked in the top 10 in Georgia in overall orthopaedic services for 10 years in a row For more information about spine services at Redmond Regional, visit redmondregional.com and click "Services." ................................................ Putting Patients First With the opening of the Redmond NeuroSpine Center this summer, Redmond Regional Medical Center is taking additional steps to promote patient-focused care. The More You Know In preparation for surgery, Redmond NeuroSpine Center provides a class that helps patients know what to expect before, during and after the procedure. Patients attend the preoperative class and are able to take reference books specifically created for procedures performed at Redmond NeuroSpine Center. "Our new center helps patients be more informed about their procedures," says Jenna Jennings, RN, Clinical Navigator at Redmond NeuroSpine Center. "The Redmond NeuroSpine Center offers community members a resource for the highest quality spine care." Jennings will also offer assistance for patients in her role as clinical navigator, a position designed to guide patients throughout the entire surgical process. As clinical navigator, Jennings will instruct the preoperative class as well as help patients through discharge from the hospital and facilitate communication among physicians, nurses, patients and their families.
