"Our aim is to provide family-centered care and to include the entire family unit in the birth experience, not just the mom," says Stephanie Stratton, BSN, RN, RNC-OB, Director of the Center for Women's Health at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. "Part of that is keeping the family unit together as much as possible, which we are able to do even in the case of sick or preterm infants, thanks to our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and affiliation with Kosair Children's Hospital." Since the opening of the Level II NICU at Frankfort Regional, it has been affiliated with Kosair Children's Hospital and their Level IV NICU, which is one of the largest in the nation. "We are pleased to be able to support the efforts of Frankfort Regional Medical Center, helping them continue to offer babies specialized care for a large number of conditions related to prematurity, as well as illness," says Jonathan Cohen, MD, Kosair Children's Hospital neonatal specialist. "This affiliation allows us to keep as many patients here in Frankfort as possible with excellent care close to home."
