A nthony's nose issues weren't keeping themselves hidden. "You could see the mass coming out of his nose a bit, and he had nosebleeds from the left nostril," said Cindy Ciscneros, Anthony's mother. "I did some research online and got nervous — I realized this could really be severe." An otolaryngologist in their hometown of Brentwood knew Anthony would need specialized care and referred him to Jeffrey Cheng, MD, otolaryngologist with Cohen Children's. Helping and Healing "Anthony's prognosis was excellent," Dr. Cheng said. "He had a pyogenic granuloma, a type of noncancerous vascular tumor, on his septum. Although a pyogenic granuloma can sometimes grow back, the location of his tumor has low rates of recurrence once removed." Dr. Cheng removed the lesion completely, without any nasal defects, last November. Today, all Anthony and his mom have left of the mass is the memory of their caring medical team. "It was my first time ever going to Cohen Children's, and everyone put me very much at ease," Ms. Ciscneros said. "Anthony's antsy about people touching him, but Dr. Cheng made him feel comfortable. He is compassionate, understanding and good with children." Is your child struggling with nasal issues? Let the experts at Cohen Children's help.
