We Cohen Children's Medical Center is dedicated to providing the absolute best care for the children and parents in our community and beyond. Welcome to the latest issue of Kids First! You may have noticed a change within our health system. North Shore-LIJ Health System is now Northwell Health. This new name signals our emphasis on innovations in providing the very best care for our communities. As always, Cohen Children's is dedicated to giving kids advanced, family-centered care. Our cover story features Rei Karki, a competitive tennis player from Phoenix whose dreams of playing in the US Open Men's Final were sidelined by scoliosis. Fortunately his family put their trust in the experts at the Billie and George Ross Center for Advanced Pediatric Orthopaedics and Minimally Invasive Spinal Surgery. Now, following surgery, Rei is back on the court. Another teen beat very different odds when Cohen Children's admitted him for treatment after a knife attack. Our clinicians at Cohen Children's, the only American College of Surgeons-verified Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center in the metro area, made all the difference to Mohmund Farhadi and his family. See the amazing story on page 4. We hope you are able to get outdoors with your children and enjoy an active lifestyle as a family. Please consider joining us at one of our three Northwell Health Walks in May. You can read about those on page 15. We hope to see you there. Kevin McGeachy Executive Director kids FIRST Follow Us!
