W alkers of all ages and abilities are welcome this spring at the Northwell Health Walk. Previously known as the North Shore-LIJ Walk for Health, the event celebrates and supports health and wellness programs. With three locations to choose from this year — Jones Beach on Long Island, the Midland Beach Promenade on Staten Island and Greenwich Village in New York City — the event will reach more people and touch more lives than ever. "Our goal is to help families on their path to wellness," said Lori Peterson, senior associate director for special events at Northwell Health Foundation. "So we want the Northwell Health Walk to be our communities' premier health and wellness event." Northwell Health Walk participants will raise funds for family wellness initiatives in the community where they walk: – Jones Beach walkers will have a positive impact on the lives and care of patients at Cohen Children's Medical Center and the Katz Institute for Women's Health. – Greenwich Village participants will help strengthen New York City families' health by supporting Lenox Health Greenwich Village, Lenox Hill Hospital, and Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. – Staten Island walkers at the Midland Beach Promenade will help to give expectant and new moms an enhanced experience at the new Women and Children's Center at Staten Island University Hospital. "This walk brings our communities together and personalizes Northwell's commitment to creating healthier families," Ms. Peterson said. "It's not only a healthy activity, but it's a lot of fun, too!" The nonprofit Children's Medical Fund of New York is asking for the community's help to provide funding for a new pediatric MRI center.
