Quality improvement has been a high priority at King's Daughters' Health for the past decade as we take a more active role in keeping people healthy, rather than simply treating them when they get sick. At the hospital, that means our case managers and discharge personnel work closely with patients to ensure they have the information they need to take care of themselves at home and avoid another hospital stay. At KDH-affiliated doctors' offices, our Living Well program addresses prevention before you ever need to utilize the hospital. We've engaged office staff to ask you about your screening and medical history to make sure you're getting the right screenings for your age or illness. If you need help managing your health, they'll connect you with our health coach to make sure your problems don't lead to a lengthy or preventable hospital stay. Our efforts, which are driven by state and national data, have paid off in multiple four-star ratings, out of a potential five, from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Those ratings mean we consistently perform better than 65 percent of hospitals nationwide. By analyzing research at the state and national levels, we've also learned that high-quality care does not need to come at a high price. The term in healthcare is "value," and we're working with all the departments at KDH to ensure that we're as valuable as possible to every member of our community. We want each person to have the knowledge and resources – both medical and financial – to conquer his or her own individual challenges and remain independent, functional and sharp for as long as possible. Wishing you wellness, Carol Dozier President and CEO of King's Daughters' Health Dear Friends and Neighbors, SUMMER www.kdhmadison.org
