Inside you'll discover more about CHI St. Joseph's Health and the programs and services we provide. We are very proud of the extensive surgical services we offer at CHI St. Joseph's Health, provided by an exceptional team. We are fortunate to have state-of-the-art surgical technology, very skilled surgeons, and specially trained staff. Our Bariatric Center of Excellence, led by Dr. Daniel Smith, is well-known throughout the entire state and region for providing high quality services and outcomes that are among the best in the country. Our size and expertise give us the unique ability to provide the highest quality care in a very personalized way. I invite you to read the story of Paulette and John Hlatky, who have been able to achieve their shared goal to lead healthier lives. Their story provides a great example of why we're here— to improve the health of the communities we serve. In this issue, CHI St. Joseph's Health is also very excited to announce the addition of orthopedic surgeon Dr. Brennen Smith, who will join our team in September. Dr. Smith specializes in hip, knee, and shoulder arthroplasty as well as cervical and lumbar (spine) surgery. He is relocating to Park Rapids and will provide full-time services through CHI St. Joseph's Health. This will allow patients to receive orthopedic care locally, Dr. Smith will make a great addition to our team! CHI St. Joseph's Health is also working to improve the health of our community by helping protect and heal our area student athletes from concussions. The movie Concussion, starring Will Smith, brought even more media attention to this subject within the past year. With the significant impact that head injuries can have on people, especially kids, CHI St. Joseph's Health developed an in-school program in Park Rapids under the direction of Angel Clark, CHI St. Joseph's Health Athletic Trainer. Angel has extensive training in assessment and concussion management and works closely with the coaches, students, medical providers, teachers, and families to help kids fully recover from head injuries. Also, in this issue of HealthLine, we highlight the investment we continue to make in our future healthcare workforce through annual scholarships, and we share the continued success of The FATHER Project. The program was recently honored with two awards and continues to make a difference in the lives of many individuals and families. Thank you for allowing us to serve you. As always, I welcome your questions, concerns, and suggestions regarding CHI St. Joseph's Health. Please contact me directly at 218.616.3500 or email me at BenKoppelman@CatholicHealth.net.
