Y ears of hard work have gone into transforming The Children's Hospital of San Antonio to better extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ to our community. Renovations to the first floor of the Hospital — including the lobby, Child Life area, chapel, Teaching Kitchen, and Café — provide a welcoming environment to all patients and families who rely on the Hospital. The Spirit of the River As the entrance to the Hospital, the lobby is designed to represent the quality care and expertise the community has come to expect. With two stories of newly designed space, the transformed lobby uses energy-efficient paneling and warm lighting to add an inviting feel. Each floor of the Hospital has its own "Welcome Wall" that provides an identity for the space and a graphic element to the floor's design. The new lobby features a beautiful, blue, topographic Wall of Honor listing the names of all donors who have supported this project. Just as the San Antonio River flows through the heart of downtown, the generous contributions of our donors provide a central lifeline of hope and healing at The Children's Hospital of San Antonio. The choice of blue represents the spirit of the river and the generosity of supporters before, during, and after our transformation project. A Place for Education For many illnesses, prevention and healing start with good, healthy food. As a place for wellness, The Children's Hospital of San Antonio is a leader in nutrition education — and the Teaching Kitchen at The Children's Hospital provides hands-on cooking courses with healthy eating in mind. Designed by the Culinary Institute of America, the Teaching Kitchen is home to the Culinary Health Education for Families (CHEF) program. Led by clinicians from The Children's Hospital of San Antonio, including a physician, chef, and registered dietitian, the CHEF program ensures that families not only have access to nutritious foods and related education, but also learn about the basics of nutrition.
