The Newest Mammogram in Town The Women’s Diagnostic Center at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano is taking digital mammography to the next level and now offers the latest technology to detect breast cancer early — 3-D mammography. Two-dimensional digital mammography has been the most advanced technology until now. The 3-D mammogram, available since early 2012 and recommended for patients with dense breast tissue, allows radiologists to examine breast tissue layer by layer so they can detect even the smallest cancers and reduce the number of callbacks. The earlier breast cancer is discovered, the more successfully it can be treated, which is why the American Cancer Society recommends women age 40 and older receive a mammogram annually. Schedule your next mammogram at the Women’s Diagnostic Center at Texas Health Plano by calling 972-981-4070. Weighing Your Hysterectomy Options According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 600,000 women undergo hysterectomies annually. If you are currently considering having this surgical procedure performed, Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano is pleased to offer minimally invasive options. The da Vinci® Si™ Surgical System uses robotic technology to assist surgeons by providing high-definition images, enhanced depth perception and the ability to make small incisions — all of which allow surgeons to perform the procedure with an unprecedented level of detail. By making smaller incisions, surgeons minimize risks for side effects patients often experience with traditional open surgical procedures, such as infection, blood loss and pain. Many times, patients who undergo this minimally invasive procedure are allowed to return home the same day and can resume normal activities sooner than they can with traditional procedures.
