JOSH SHIPP, NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED SPEAKER AND TEEN ADVOCATE, WILL EXPLAIN THE COMPLEXITIES OF TODAY'S TEENS DURING A PUBLIC TALK IN SEPTEMBER AT THE STATE THEATRE IN EAU CLAIRE. WHEN YOUR TEEN IS NOT OK FOR KIDS AND parents, the teen years can present new challenges and lifelong consequences. Josh Shipp, an author, global youth empowerment expert, and acclaimed speaker, will come to the Chippewa Valley in September to help adults understand teens and teens understand themselves. Raised in the foster care system, Josh faced abuse and addiction for years until one caring adult reached out and made a difference. That act spurred one of Josh's core principles: Every child is one caring person away from being a success story. For years, 3D Community Health: Body.Mind.Spirit has been a leader in mental health awareness and action in Eau Claire and Chippewa counties after having learned through a Community Needs Assessment that the number one health concern in the Chippewa Valley is mental health. 3D Community Health is bringing Josh to the area to help parents and their kids understand emotions and situations that come with the teen years. FOR TEENS AND ADULTS Josh will speak to teens at Memorial High School in Eau Claire and at Chippewa Falls Senior High School in separate, private events. But parents, teachers and mentors of teens are encouraged to attend Josh's public talk the evening of Wednesday, Sept. 28. Using his unique, engaging brand of humor, Josh will discuss: ✳ Five common mistakes to avoid ✳ How to get through to any teen ✳ Case studies of what works and what doesn't ✳ Simple and effective ways to let teens know you care "Josh reminds parents that they are the number one teachers in their kids' lives," says Kelly Lauscher, Educator for 3D Community Health. "Love (to a teen) equals time. Spend time with your kids. Josh has a unique way of empowering adults to reconnect with their teens." 3D Community Health's goal is to bring in one or two nationally known speakers a year to give practical tools relating to mental health. "The mission of 3D Community Health is to shed light on the community's top health needs. We use local and national experts to educate the public," Lauscher says. "We know the answers are not simple, but we can bring a variety of opportunities to the community as resources to tackle issues from many angles." Helping Adults Understand Teens Josh Shipp will provide an adults-only talk, open to the whole community, on Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. at the Eau Claire State Theatre. Seating is limited, contact the State Theatre at 715.832.2787 for tickets. To learn more about Josh's public community event for adults on Sept. 28, call 3D Community Health at 715.717.1600. 5 S TJ O E S C H I P FA L L S . C O M
