Editor–CentraState Brian Johnson Writers Susan Bloom Jane DeTullio Stephanie Duncan Chris N. Johnson Jane Kollmer Jennifer Nelson Photographers Peter Chollick Rich Schaub Kevin Birch Jeff Tureaud Noah Murray I am proud to announce that CentraState has received a 4-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) 5-Star Quality Rating System. CentraState is one of only eight hospitals in New Jersey to receive 4 stars, which was the highest rating issued in the state this year. The rankings are based on 64 quality and service measures such as mortality, hospital-acquired infection rates, and readmission rates. CMS also assesses patient responses to Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) surveys, which rate the hospital based on patient perception of the hospital's performance in complying with health care standards, quality measures, and staffing. We are extraordinarily pleased to be recognized by the federal government for the quality of care we provide our patients in the state of New Jersey. While there are many other groups that focus on various health-related services, none are as broad as this one. Thus, it is gratifying that CMS, a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, has noted the commitment of our physicians, nurses, and clinicians to uphold our mission of clinical excellence. Considering this 4-Star Quality Rating, being one of only 2 percent of hospitals in the nation to achieve Magnet ® status for nursing excellence three times, achieving "Most Wired" Designer Sherri Thornton status from the American Hospital Association for the seventh year in a row, our Get With The Guidelines ® Stroke Gold Plus Achievement Awards from the American Heart Association, and our many accreditations, we are proud that CentraState is in an elite class of hospitals in New Jersey. I attribute this success to my belief that we have assembled the finest staff of physicians, nurses, employees, and volunteers possible. I would like to extend my most heartfelt gratitude to every patient who has walked through CentraState's doors and all those considering us for their health care needs. We hope you are as satisfied with your care as we are honored to be here for you. The Stars Are Out – and We Earned Four of Them. CentraState is One of Only Eight Hospitals in NJ to Earn a 4-Star Quality Rating.
