STEPHANIE EDITOR Attitudes are contagious. Just like a nasty cold, a habit of pessimism can seep into those around you and then everyone acts sick. What, though, if we tried really conscientiously to be optimistic? What if we dared to be the one that lights up a room and helps everyone to see that while a situation or problem may be difficult, it is not Armageddon? Be purposeful in what you spread and mindful of your attitude. MAGGIE EDITOR I am definitely a "glass half empty" type of person. But when I was going through a particularly difficult time a couple of years ago, one of my closest friends gave me some excellent advice: each day, write down three things you are grateful for. I still take time each night before falling asleep to think about all of the things I am thankful for, and that helps me see the brighter side of life. JULIA MORGAN EDITOR As I grew up, I also grew a little bit away from my younger "Pollyanna" way of thinking. I have managed to become cautiously optimistic rather than vivaciously optimistic, a characteristic I consider to be a little more grown-up. I will probably never stop being a dreamer, as I have been referred to by some of my friends, but a little dose of realism along with a sparkle of "Pollyanna-ism" is a pretty good combination. s t d o m . c o m
