Adaptive Interventions: Assistance for Problem Drinking Northwell Health's Center for Addiction Services and Psychotherapy Interventions Research (CASPIR) is enrolling participants for its Adaptive Interventions (AI) study, which is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health. The six-month therapeutic trial begins with a brief intervention session to decrease alcohol use. One to six psychotherapeutic treatments of increasing intensity may follow, depending on an individual's success in curbing his or her drinking. Evidence-based therapy is delivered in a private, one-on-one setting or via confidential televideo sessions. Five assessments conducted at various points during the AI trial monitor alcohol consumption, and brief interventions help participants bring their alcohol use to healthy levels. Participants do not have to pay to enroll in the trial and will be compensated for their time. A new trial aims to help people reduce their alcohol consumption to healthy levels or stop drinking altogether.
