In our quest to provide resources for members of our community to build healthy lifestyles, we wanted to create a space for people to connect with one another and access vital information. One of the most eective ways to share this information and create community support is through a Facebook group. The Richland Wilkin ACTIVE Group is a public Facebook group that is dedicated to supporting healthy lifestyles. ACTIVE stands for "Active Community Taking Initiative with a Variety of Exercise and nutrition." Richland, Wilkin, and the surrounding counties have many great resources, but when only shared through television or radio, some residents may never hear about them. The ACTIVE Facebook Group regularly shares information about: • Physical activity opportunities andevents • Nutrition • Exercise options • Healthy choices • Weekly produce specials at local grocerystores • Other online resources for building ahealthylifestyle Importance of Activity and Nutrition In 2013, CHI St. Francis Health, along with other key community members, completed a Community Health Needs Assessment that surveyed residents in our service area. The results revealed that obesity was one of the major areas of concern. About 30 percent of adults were classied as obese, with 28 percent of adults reporting physical inactivity. Fruit and vegetable consumption is poor in our area, and about 50 percent of high school students report exercising less than 60 minutes ve to seven times per week. According to the 2016 report, obesity remains at the forefront of our community's health challenges. By educating the community about making lifestyle changes for nutrition and physical activity, we hope to improve overall health. "It made sense to have a channel to directly share items that met the needs of our community," says Michelle Nelson, a member of the community education task force." As an open group, we invite anyone to share any questions or things they would like to see— we love community input." To find the ACTIVE Facebook group, search "Richland Wilkin ACTIVE Group" on Facebook. Healing in Action Another demand for the community established by the 2013 Community Health Needs Assessment was the need for an after- hours clinic. In 2016, CHI St. Francis Health opened the after-hours walk-in clinic on the campus of CHI St. Francis Health. Rather than going nearly 40 miles away or resorting to the emergency room for a minor issue, the after- hours clinic allows quick access to care for moderate problems, such as: Infections Minor Burns Sprains and strains Stomach problems Click, Get ACTIVE! The ACTIVE Group Facebook page is an important step in building a healthier community. www.sfcare.org 3
