Long Island 05-848 PUBLISHER from the ............................................... Dan Senkiw PUBLISHER Long Island ............................................... dansenkiw@mdnews.com 914-967-6565 ............................................... @MDNewsMetroNY Greetings, physicians and other healthcare leaders, and welcome to the November issue of MD News Long Island. It's exciting for us to talk with clinicians and researchers who are at the leading edge of their field, and that feeling is patently manifested in this issue. This month, we spoke with the experts at NewYork- Presbyterian/Queens Heart and Vascular Center about the variety of procedures they are performing using minimally invasive techniques. They have taken full advantage of technological progress toward treating aortic aneurysm, varicose veins, peripheral artery disease, carotid artery disease and more. As the demographics of our population shift, the NYP/Queens vascular team's services will only become more vital. For our special clinical section about gastroenterology, we spoke with researchers from California and Australia about prospects for leveraging spider venom in the e€ort to relieve pain associated with irritable bowel syndrome. In addition, we review the success of an initiative to increase screening and treatment for hepatitis C among American Indians. For our national feature, we gathered a range of expert perspectives on how physicians should address concussion risk among youths who play football. In our People in the News and Local News sections, we fill you in on important events in our area, as well as the individuals involved. MD News' print and digital formats focus on issues pertinent on a local level and serve as valuable referral sources throughout the region. Contact me at 914-967-6565 or dansenkiw@mdnews.com to share your views on topics covered, or publicize upcoming events or news with clinicians here in Long Island.
