Dear Friends, Turning 100 feels pretty good but 150 is even better. In September, CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System celebrated a century since our founding. Just one month later, we reached another milestone that was just as special: the 150th anniversary of the arrival in Texas of three Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word from France. Upon their arrival in Galveston in 1866, the Sisters established the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word-Houston. The following year, the hospital they founded in Galveston — the first Catholic hospital in Texas — started a ministry we're honored to continue. Throughout their history in health care, the Sisters have been known for their resilience and ability to adapt to meet the needs of those they serve. As we enter our second century, we look forward to staying true to those values. In this issue, you can learn how we're doing just that. Our recent health needs assessment revealed an alarming rate of lung cancer in our region. Turn to page 5 to learn how we're using low-dose computed tomography (CT) screenings to diagnose this disease early. On page 9, you can read about our recent American College of Radiology accreditation for breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), another demonstration of our commitment to offering high- quality breast health services close to where women live and work. On pages 6 and 7, photos tell the tale of how far we've come since our founding. I'm grateful for your support as we continue our journey.
